In 500 years what difference will it make? II, 2016
In 500 years, what difference will it make? II and In 500 Years, what difference will it make? I are complimentary works based on a series of 500 objects, of both human and non-human origin, collected on Rodeo Beach in Marin county, CA. The number of objects is a reference to the estimated minimum number of years it takes plastic to completely degrade into the ecosystem. The installation component comprises of the 500 objects arranged in a continuous line according to their shape. The video shows these objects, in the same order as in the installation, morphing sequentially. The twin pieces explore the tension between the urgency of the overwhelming impact we are having on our ecosystems, and a longer term view in which all things transform into something else rendering the distinction between human and nature meaningless.
